There is a particular defiance in forms that refuse to be tamed into a straight line. This piece takes its name and its logic from the rhizome; a structure, botanical and philosophical alike, that grows without a single root, a fixed center, or a predetermined hierarchy. It branches, doubles back, and finds its own path, refusing the neat, linear order that convention expects of it. As a queer maker, that refusal is the point.
Rhizome Console is a rebuke to the boxy, minimalist utilitarianism dominating furniture design today; work that flattens individuality into efficient, interchangeable form. Drawing on Art Nouveau's own history of ornament as resistance (a movement that, in its own time, was seen as decadent, excessive, and unruly), this piece is unapologetically bold: hand-carved, gilded, sinuous, and confident. It doesn't hide in a room; it holds court in one.
Where much of contemporary design asks furniture to disappear into its surroundings, Rhizome Console insists on being seen — a stance that feels inseparable from queer identity itself: individualistic, self-defined, and proud of the space it takes up.
