A torii doesn't enclose a space. It marks a threshold: the point where you cross from one world into another, without ever fully belonging to either side of the gate. This entry table borrows that structural idea and lets it stand in for something more personal. It exists in the crossing itself, in the walnut base rooted in mid-century modern's clean, Western vocabulary, and a floating top drawn from Japanese Shinto altar forms, refusing to let either tradition simply absorb the other.
That refusal to resolve into one thing is where the piece's queerness lives. The hand-carved naguri texture running down the side panels and drawer front, each mark cut individually rather than smoothed into uniformity, reads less as decoration than as evidence: a record of a surface that was worked on, shaped by hand, allowed to keep its texture instead of being sanded into anonymity. It's a piece about standing in the doorway rather than picking a side of it, and being fully present there.
